HONEYWELL BAKER PARK MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE

[RE: Implementation of the USGA GHIN Handicap System]
1. Definitions:
Core Member:
1. A player that has been declared a primary member of a team. 2. A player that has posted at least 5 league scores. 3. A player who must have, or arranged to get, a USGA Handicap (preferably GHIN) card.
Differential:
A score less the Course Rating for 9-holes or 18-holes one played, multiplied by 113 (USGA average slope), divided by the Slope of the 9- holes or 18-holes played.
Discount:
A percent factor applied to a differential to buffer core members from substitutes, without established handicaps, shooting low scores while claiming high handicaps.
Handicap/Index:
Average of correct number of differentials multiplied by .96, product then trimmed to tenths (an index), multiplied by course slope and divided by 113.
Substitute:
1. Any player who is not a core member of a team and who has not posted over 4 league scores.
2. How Core Members will be Handicapped:

Core Members must provide a valid 18-hole Handicap using USGA - Slope System using a method descibed below.

  1. A valid GHIN handicap index will prevail.
  2. Until the core member has posted scores for 45 holes, league play or other reported, a 9-hole handicap will be figured by using the undiscounted index calculated from the lowest posted score, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed.
  3. After the core member has posted scores for 45 holes, a handicap will be figured, using GHIN formulae for 9-hole Handicaps, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed. This 9-hole handicap will then be treated like a valid 9-hole GHIN Handicap. i.e. Doubled
  4. After 90 holes, the core member will have a valid 18-hole handicap.
New Core Members are encouraged to play enough rounds to qualify for a valid GHIN handicap as quickly as possible. REMEMBER! The more you play the better the system works and besides, it's FUN.

3. How Substitutes will be Handicapped:

  1. Substitutes with a valid, current GHIN (no other system qualifies) Handicap Index will play off that index with no discounts.
  2. 1. First time Subs will use the Score/Handicap Scale on the weekly sheet. The discount applied to the underlying differential is 80%.
    2. Second time Subs will have the lower of their two differentials, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed, discounted by 85%.
    3. Third time Subs will have the lowest of their first three differentials, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed, discounted by 90%.
    4. Fourth time Subs will have the lowest of their four differentials, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed, discounted by 95%.
  3. Subs who have played in the league 5 times are now considered core members (def. 2), and will have handicaps figure by method 2C, including round just completed to be used in determining points for the match just completed.
As you can see, the use of substitutes is quite penalized unless they have a GHIN Card.
